SIC highlights Arquiled’s leadership in Smart Public Lighting
Arquiled’s Public Lighting technology was the main feature on the latest episode of Futuro Hoje, SIC’s technology and innovation program, following the recent visit of Lourenço Medeiros and his team to our factory in Mora and to the Boardwalk Cascais, where they saw the future of public lighting in action.
Technology serving smarter cities
The episode, aired last Wednesday, showcased Arquiled’s leadership in this sector, as well as the many advantages of LED technology and its role in the future (and present) of many Portuguese municipalities. Fernando Pais, project manager at Cascais Próxima, explained that adopting LED in the Paredão de Cascais project allows for 80% energy savings compared to previous consumption, equivalent to “100 000 euros in annual energy savings” from a total investment of 175,000€. This combination of savings and improved light quality is driving many municipalities to replace conventional luminaires with LED solutions.
In Boardwalk Cascais and other projects across the country, the economic benefits and lighting quality are complemented by the ability to manage luminaires remotely. As highlighted by Miguel Allen Lima, Arquiled’s CEO, these smart systems can also integrate with other technologies to monitor weather conditions, CO2 emissions, and enhance public safety.
Arquiled: local impact, global ambition
To see firsthand how the luminaires are made, Futuro Hoje visited Arquiled’s factory in Mora, emphasizing its contribution to local employment in this Alentejo municipality, where the company now employs around 45 people.
LED technology has been at the heart of Arquiled since its founding, but the focus on public lighting began in 2014. Today, this sector represents 90% of the company’s business and continues to grow steadily both in Portugal and abroad, particularly in Latin America, where Arquiled recently opened a branch in Colombia.
