ARQUILED equips the municipality of Coimbra with advanced street lighting solutions
Infrastructure modernization project will save approximately 74% in energy consumption and reduce three and a half tons of CO₂ emissions annually
ARQUILED, a company of the Visabeira Group, is carrying out in Coimbra one of the largest street lighting projects in Portugal, equipping the municipality with 23,000 luminaires, more than half of which are smart and monitored through its integrated management system – ECCOS City Plus.
The supply of equipment and services by ARQUILED amounts to 7 million euros.
According to estimated data, in addition to a significant improvement in service quality, the total savings could reach 74.25%, equivalent to around 9.7 GWh/year and a reduction of over 3,500 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
This project to modernize the public street lighting infrastructure of the municipality of Coimbra to LED technology with remote management aligns with the Energy Efficiency Management Plan launched by the city council.
The conversion of 23,027 conventional light points to LED luminaires covers all eighteen parishes of the municipality, involving the installation of different types of luminaires, including road, urban, and historic types, among others, equipped with control systems and sensors.
ECCOS City Plus is used to monitor and manage the luminaires point by point, adjusting, among other parameters, light intensity to operating hours (the savings profiles) according to operational needs. The system operates on a long-range, low-energy-consumption network (LPWAN), designed to support IoT projects.
To implement these measures, the municipality of Coimbra signed a contract with PreZero Portugal, an energy services company. The company uses the savings generated from reduced energy consumption in public street lighting to reinvest in the municipality’s infrastructure, without creating any additional costs or financial burden for the city. PreZero Portugal partnered with ARQUILED, as specialists in street lighting solutions, to assist in project implementation.
Miguel Allen Lima, CEO of ARQUILED, emphasizes that “participating in this innovative energy efficiency project gives us great satisfaction, perfectly aligning with our mission to promote sustainability and efficiency in city management, generating value and mitigating environmental impact, one of the missions we have pursued for 20 years in this sector.”
It should be noted that ARQUILED, a subsidiary of Constructel Visabeira, has been a pioneer in LED lighting since 2005, focusing on the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for cities while safeguarding essential resources. With a strong presence across the country, it has extensive experience in the development and implementation of smart street lighting projects.
